European Rock Music Festival ROCK BY NIGHT 2009 in Edinburgh
Well known Rock Music Festival – „Rock by Night“ in Poland has expanded to UK this year. First semi finals happened on the 27th Feb at the GRV in Edinburgh. Bands were performing from all over UK.
All the performances were judged by a panel comprising of music journalists and professional musicians.
Judges:
Paul Turnbull - co-runs Scottish independent record label Creeping Bent whose last two albums by Scottish band Bricolage and Swedish band Sambassadeur have been well received and whose singles have been single of the week on BBC Radio 1 & 2. He used to play drums for Scottish indie band The Secret Goldfish who released three albums and who appeared at the first two T-in-the-park festivals in the mid-nineties.
Michael Hall - used to play keyboards in a band called "The Lost Soul band". The band had a couple of albums out on Silvertone Records/Zomba. Michael and his musical partner in crime Nick (" the Vanishing American Family") have got a track in a feature film called "Red Road" which recently won the special jury prize at Cannes.
Kim Campbell - a lecturer at Jewel & Esk College in Edinburgh and an active classical clarinettist. Her primary interests are Arts Administration and Events Management related to classical, jazz and contemporary music. She has worked for a number of jazz festivals and concert series including the John Coltrane Memorial Concert. Kim received her B.A. in Music Industry, Music Literature and French from Northeastern University and her MMus in Musicology from the University of Edinburgh. Her main areas of research focused on orchestral programming and music in the community.
Anna Skiba - has got a degree in Music Industry with a major in violin and a piano as well as in Cultural Management. She works for the Leith FM now and has a show about cultural events there.
During the concert we could listen to and had a fun with bands such as: Kacpersky (Northampton), Faithful Narrator (Edinburgh), The Runk Collective (Glasgow), Foxgang (Edinburgh, Glasgow).
